I like wine..a lot. I like to drink a good glass of wine at the end of the day together wit a nice dinner. I also like good food but that is another story.
So I was very happy and curious when I heard I could go to visit VINISUD last 18-20th of March in Montpellier. I live in Barcelona, not that far, so easy to go….And Not Just Fashion is not just about Fashion ..so why not write about this event? Maybe we can even find some fashion trends in wine?
To start just some general info about Vinisud:
VINISUD is all about wines of the Mediterranean region. The event brings together most Mediterranean wine producers and trade buyers from across the continents, helping to open up new wine markets for the Mediterranean and of course maintaining the current contacts.
It counts 30,000 international visitor admissions representing 70 nationalities, including 400 international VIP buyers recruited by VINISUD and Sud de France as part of the International Business Forum (FIA).
Nearly 1,500 exhibitors with attendance by all Southern marketing boards and countries around the Mediterranean.
….so there I arrived last sunday at VINISUD, all surrounded by professionals of this industry what represents a small ..yes €9.2 bn ( Mediterranean wines) in sales and a 28,5% of global exports in 2016. What to do, what to see, what to taste….where to start? It is immense!
Just to have an idea:
Conferences about:The international MediterraneanWine Observatory, New York versus Paris, A comparative study of wine consumptions trends and growth opportunities, Neuroenology: When neuroscience becomes part of winetasting etc.etc..
Masterclasses about: AOC Limoux sparkling wines: International signals from the international marketplace, Climate changes, wine changes and Volcanic wines from the South of Italy etc.etc..
Workshop Digital Hub: 10 tips to implement a successful digital marketing strategy: Web, social media, Influencers, #WomenDoWine:how and why a hashtag turned into a collective of professionals, Content at the core of your business etc.etc..
After two days of walking around, talking, wine tasting and visiting conferences, masterclasses and some digital Hub classes I could say I am impressed about the professionalism of this industry and the organization and of course about the wines.
Some of my higlights:
Red wine: A Corsican wine Domaine Piertti , A Murteta of 2016
White wine: a French Cabernet Sauvignon Toques Et Clochers 2010
Rose Wine: a French Domaine des Peirecèdes La Tulipe Noir
Blanquette: a French Blanquette de Limoux Sieur D`arques
And last but not least an Italian Moscatel Taniet, Moscato di Pantelleria. 2014
I already knew, but now even more than ever, it is confirmed, …not just any wine drinker is an expert and I must sadly admit I am not an expert. I still need some help of my Vivino app..I think I just stick on drinking a good wine so now and then.
What about Fashion and Wine? Yes, you can find a lot of fashion and trends in the wine industry. Bottle sleeves and marketing materials are based on the new fashion colors of that season. In this case we could see the fuchsia color in several occasions. Not just during the fair but also during Fashion Show Madrid Fuchsia and wines were represented in a pair.
We have seen trends in labels, design bottles, different aromas, trends in online media etc. .
Maybe a good excuse to go next year to investigate a bit more?
Thank you VINISUD for this great event!
